Don't Sleep, hosted by T. J. Holmes begins Oct. 1 at 11P/10c on BET

I am so glad that BET going back to basics and allowing a late night talk show that focuses politics, pop culture from our point of view. As I kid I remember staying up late watching Jacquie Reid and Cousin Jeff on BET Nightly News I was really upset when the program was cancelled. Although I feel as T.J. Holmes is the right person to host this show and display intellectual dialogue. As a Political Science major this is something that I am very passionate about.

Disclaimer: I am not a member of BGLO aka Black Greek Letter Organization although I have family and friends that are members. But I also take the time to recognize these organizations because since their inceptions they have produced outstanding layers, politicians, actors, activist, etc. also their civic work helps benefit the African American community. With that being said this blog post is dedicated to the men of Iota Phi Theta Fraternity Inc.

Your Life Depends On It..... Go Vote

Vote or Die Episode of South Park Political Humor

Disclaimer: In the past I might told you who to vote for. For that I apologize and I just want to help educate you how important it is to vote this year.

It's 2012 and we are dealing with some serious changes in the United States once again we are facing another presidential election. In the words of  DAP from School Daze WAKE UP!!!!!

This year the presidential election is crucial to survival as a Political Science major I can honestly say with politics it is always tricky but I will be honest. There are flaws in all political parties as a voter you must learn how to understand why the candidate wants your vote and how their policies can affect as well as possibly benefit you.

So why does voting even matter? First of all voting is apart your civic duty, many people have fought and died for you to have the right to vote, the legislation being passed depends on your voter participation, and last but not least you have no room to complain of you decide not to vote.

Pay Attention to Voter ID Laws here is a link to the website that can help you prepare before election day comes. http://www.nscl.org/legislatures-elections

    Become An Educated Voter
    1.Learn information about the candidates.
    2.  Learn the difference the political parties.
    3. Vote in state primaries as well as presidential elections.
    4. Learn about the issues the candidates are focusing on and what their plans are.
    5. Get to the polls on Election Day
fought and died for you to have this right.

    Happy Birthday Mr. Perry

    Happy Birthday Tyler Perry!

Tyler Perry began his career in the Atlanta writing, directing, and starring in plays centered around Mable “Madea”Simmons. He has since written, directed, starred in and/or produced dozens of projects, like Diary of a Mad Black Woman, Why Did I Get Married? and For Colored Girls. In 2008 he opened Tyler Perry Studios in Atlanta, the first major television and movie studio owned by an African-American producer.

If you dislike Tyler Perry and his work that is fine because everyone is entitled to their own opinion. One thing people fail to realize about Tyler Perry is his alot of his films do have messages yes they are made for entertainment. Also he is the only Black film actor, writer, and producer willing to give many people a chance to work and practice the craft of acting. If you don't believe me ask Tamela Mann, Ke Ke Palmer, Michael Jae White, Lamon Rucker, Jill Scott. He has truely helped actors specfically Black actors have more opportunities to start off in his stage plays, move to films, and branch to other television shows. I know Spike Lee dislikes his work and don't get wrong I like Spike Lee films such as School Daze, Do The Right Thing, and Mo Better Blues but when was the last time he did something to help Black actors?

    Tyler Perry as Madea

I respect Tyler Perry because he was once a homeless man that used his writing skills to achieve success I mean he used to live in his car. By the way Tyler Perry had to hustle hard to get where he is and how he will be starring in action film called Alex Cross. The last time I checked Eddie Murphy, Martin Lawerence, portrayed many characters in their career and they were dressed as women but have starred in various films and television shows whether its comedy, drama, or action. Not that I'm saying that I'm extremely fond of man in drag but you do what you gotta do in life somtimes in order to get to where you want to be.

All Star Tribute - What's Going On 2001

Marvin Gaye asked us back in the 1970's "What's Going On?" and almost 30 years later many stars collaborated to remake this classic song in honor of the victims from the 9/11 attacks. I like both versions of the song although this remake was a great way to pay tribute.

    9/11

    We Remember!
A moment of silence and rest in peace to the many men, women, and children that lost their lives during the 9/11 attacks.
