Happy Centennial
Disclaimer: I am not a member of any organization within the NPHC (National Pan-Hellenic Council) but I have family and friends that have shared their experiences with me. This post is dedicated the men of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Inc. Congratulations on celebrating 100 years.
Motto: "Friendship is Essential, to the Soul"
On November 17, 1911 Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Inc. was founded by Oscar James Cooper,
Edgar Amos Love, Frank Coleman, and faculty adviser Dr. Ernest Everett Just at the campus of Howard University in Washington, D.C. Each of the founders graduated and went on to have distinguished careers.
Other Facts:
Omega Psi Phi is the first African-American fraternity founded at a Historically Black College.
NAACP- A life membership is required by all chapters and districts.
Founder of Black History Month Carter G. Woodson is a member of the fraternity.
At my college Western Kentucky University the Gamma Theta Omega Psi Phi chapter was chartered July 3, 1969.
Their fraternity mission is: Make a Difference in the Lives of Black People
The Gamma Theta Chapter won the 2011 Western Kentucky University Step Show once again congratulations on celebrating 100 years.
Prominent members of the fraternity are Steve Harvey, Micheal Jordan, Carter G Woodson, Langston Hughes, Vince Carter, Bill Cosby, Matthew Knowles, just to name a few.
