Those Lovely Doves



Disclaimer: I am not a member of organizations within the Divine 9 also known as the National Pan-Hellenic Council although I have family and friends that are members and they have shared their experinces with me. This post is dedicated to the members of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority Inc. congratulations on celebrating 91 years. The images you see are members of the organization.


On January 16, 1920 Zeta Phi Beta Sorority was founded by Arizona Cleaver (Stemons), Pearl Anna Neal, Myrtle Tyler (Faithful), Viola Tyler (Goings),  Fannie Pettie (Watts) at Howard University.  

It was first incorporated on March 30, 1923 in Washington, D.C. by sorority members Myrtle Tyler, Gladys Warrington, Joanna Houston, Josephine Johnson and O. Goldia Smith. The sorority held the first boule (convention) in 1920 with members of Phi Beta Sigma at Howard University.

Fun Facts: Zeta Phi Beta is the only NPHC sorority that is constitutionally bound to a fraternity, Phi Beta Sigma.

The sorority maintains affiliations with several organizations including American Diabetes Association, March of Dimes, American Cancer Society, American Red Cross, National Council  of Negro Women,  and the United Negro College Fund.

At my school Western Kentucky University the Omega Delta Chapter of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority was chartered in 1972.
